10 Free Printable Memento Mori Calendars — A Simple Way to Visualize Your Life and Make It Count
Ever catch yourself thinking, “Where’d all the time go?” Or feeling like the weeks are flying by faster than ever? Same here. That’s actually what inspired me to create these free printable Memento Mori calendars — and I’m so excited to finally share them with you. I created them all in a pretty minimalist and modern design that I hope you will like!
These minimalist life calendars are a powerful little tool to help you reflect on time, stay grounded, and live more intentionally. Each square represents a week of your life — based on the average lifespan of 80 years (that’s 4,160 weeks total). You color in one square per week to reflect on time passing and stay grounded in what really matters.
I’m sharing 10 printable templates, each with a different quote or title, so you can choose one that matches your personal vibe or mood. They’re great for hanging on the wall, adding to your planner, or tucking into your bullet journal as a weekly check-in.
Let’s talk about what Memento Mori means, why these calendars are so motivating (and not at all morbid!), and how to use them.

What Is a Memento Mori Calendar?
The phrase Memento Mori is Latin for “Remember you must die.” But don’t worry — it’s not as dark as it sounds! The idea isn’t to be gloomy, but to remind ourselves how precious and limited our time really is.
A Memento Mori calendar is a visual tracker of your life, broken down into weeks. Each little square represents one week.
You color in or mark a square every week, from your birth onward, and what you’re left with is a striking, simple image of how far you’ve come — and how much is still ahead.
Think of it as a gentle weekly nudge to pause, reflect, and make the most of where you are right now.
A Quick History of Memento Mori
This concept has been around for centuries. Memento Mori dates all the way back to ancient Rome, where generals were said to be reminded of their mortality during victory celebrations. It later became common in medieval and Renaissance art, often symbolized by hourglasses, skulls, or autumn leaves — all used to quietly whisper, “Hey, life is short. Make it meaningful.”
One quote I love (and used on one of the designs!) comes from the Roman poet Horace: “Let us live, since we must die.”
It’s not about fear — it’s about perspective.
Why Use a Printable Life Calendar?
Even if you’re not the type to journal or track everything, Memento Mori calendars are surprisingly powerful. Here’s why I love them (and why I think you will too):
-
✨ Keeps you mindful – It’s a low-effort way to check in with yourself every week.
-
📆 Makes time visible – Watching your squares fill up is a real eye-opener (in the best way).
-
🌱 Helps you live more intentionally – You start asking, “How am I spending my weeks?” and that awareness can shift everything.
-
💡 Motivates change – Not loving the story your squares are telling? You can rewrite it — starting now.
